The impressions these birds left are so incredibly detailed, almost cartoonishly precise. The doomed birds who thought they could fly through the skyway. And really, who could blame them. You see sky, and if you’re a bird, you go for it.
I unfortunately drew a bit of a crowd gathering these shots. I’d set up the tripod so I could get as long an exposure as possible without any blurring, and tripods attract gawkers. People were fascinated, just as much as I was by these grim impressions.
From the crowd that had gathered, I heard one kid ask his dad “What kind of bird made those marks?” and his dad said, “A dead bird.”
